The world’s first so-called ‘energy island’ under construction in the Princess Elisabeth zone, 45 kilometers from the Belgian coast, aims to serve as an energy hub to contribute to sustainable energy supply in Europe. The island is being erected on a total of 23 caissons, with each caisson approximately 60 m long, 30 m wide and 22 m high. The Wacker Neuson battery-converter backpack ACBe and a variety of its high-frequency IRFU internal vibrators are being used in the consolidation of these concrete elements.

More than 120 high-frequency internal vibrators IRFU are in use, and Wacker Neuson internal vibrators with an exchangeable battery as a backpack system are also used on the site. The battery-converter backpack ACBe makes it possible to work without a power cable, which means greater freedom of movement for the operator and improved operating comfort.

The Battery One lithium-ion battery drives the ACBe and it can be quickly and easily exchanged between the backpacks and other equipment. Additional benefits include the elimination of trip risks from cables, or power cables lying in wet concrete, which helps improve safety levels on the construction site.
